Shows we'd buy tickets for

Brandi Carlile takes The Human Tour into Rogers Arena, Thursday, September 17

Carlile has spent the last several years working mostly through other people's records, and Returning to Myself, released in October 2025, was the correction: her eighth studio album and her first solo project in four years. The tour takes its name from the album track "Human," and the staging is built for arena scale, which suits a catalogue that has always been written for rooms bigger than the ones she started in. Tickets.

Johnny Blue Skies plays the Pacific Coliseum, Saturday, September 19

Sturgill Simpson has been recording and touring under the Johnny Blue Skies name since 2024, and the Mutiny for the Masses run pairs him with a band billed as the Dark Clouds behind the new album Mutiny After Midnight. The Pacific Coliseum is an unusual room for him, and a welcome one: it is the kind of hockey barn where his long, unhurried sets tend to land hardest. This is the only BC date on a 29-show itinerary that ends in Lexington at the end of October. Tickets.

Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age close the Canadian leg at BC Place, Sunday, September 20

This is the last of four Canadian stadium dates on the Take Cover Tour, after Toronto, Regina and Edmonton, and the biggest single show Vancouver will see this month. The current lineup is Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Rami Jaffee and drummer Ilan Rubin, who joined in 2025. Queens of the Stone Age support on the Canadian run, which makes the bill a reunion of sorts: Grohl drummed on Songs for the Deaf in 2002 and has been circling Josh Homme's orbit ever since. Doors and set times are worth checking before you go, since the stadium schedule starts earlier than an arena night. Tickets.

Bring Me The Horizon open a nine-date arena run at Rogers Arena, Sunday, September 20

Vancouver is night one of POST HUMAN: NeX GEn - The Third Ascension Program, which runs nine arena shows across Canada and the United States into October with Motionless in White and The Plot In You. It is also the start of BMTH's first proper Canadian routing in roughly fifteen years, taking in Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg before wrapping the Canadian portion in London, Ontario. Expect the full production: the NeX GEn staging leans hard on screens, cyberpunk set dressing and a show that is closer to a built environment than a rock concert. Tickets.

Sleep bring a new lineup to the Commodore Ballroom, Sunday, September 20

The doom institution returns without founding guitarist Matt Pike. Al Cisneros now leads a trio filled out by Bubba Dupree of Void on guitar and Dale Crover of the Melvins and Redd Kross on drums, a configuration that debuted on "Have Spacesuit Will Travel," the band's first new song in eight years. This is the only Canadian date on the first leg, and the Commodore's sprung floor and a Sleep amp stack remain one of the more physically memorable combinations available in this city. Tickets.

José González at the Orpheum Theatre, Tuesday, September 15

Against the Dying of the Light, out in March, is González's fifth album and his first collection of original songs in more than four years, a quiet record about legacy and mortality that borrows its title from Dylan Thomas and some of its guitar phrasing from Saharan desert blues. The Orpheum is close to the ideal room for it: this is music that rewards a hall where you can hear the fingernails on nylon. Tickets.

Two outdoor nights worth the weather gamble

Bahamas headlines Malkin Bowl on Saturday, September 19, which is about as good a Stanley Park pairing as Afie Jagadeesh's loose, funny, deceptively sad songs could ask for (tickets). The next night, Sarah McLachlan closes the PNE's Summer Night Concerts series at the Freedom Mobile Arch, a hometown date from an artist who has been part of this city's musical identity for more than three decades (tickets).

And if you want a smaller room

Lyle Lovett brings his Small Large Band to the Vogue Theatre on Tuesday (tickets), Ninajirachi plays two Commodore nights on Wednesday and Thursday, Melanie C is at the Vogue on Friday, Bilal is at The Pearl the same night, and Unsane close the week out at the Rickshaw Theatre on Sunday for anyone who would rather have their Sunday noise at scale of 500 than 54,000.
