The album that started it

Calculating Infinity arrived in 1999 and effectively drew the blueprint for what people would later call mathcore: hardcore aggression run through jazz-adjacent time signatures, guitar lines that refuse to resolve, and a rhythm section that treats the beat as something to argue with. Minakakis sang on it, then left the band shortly afterward. Greg Puciato took over the microphone for the records that made Dillinger a festival-level name, and stayed until the group ended its run in 2017.

That looked like the end of it. Then in June 2024 Minakakis and the band reconvened to play Calculating Infinity in full across three nights at Brooklyn Paramount, their first shows of any kind since the breakup. What was pitched as a 25th-anniversary victory lap kept going, through European festival slots at Graspop Metal Meeting and Hellfest and into this final North American run.

The band has been explicit that this is where it stops. After Philadelphia, Worcester and Baltimore in mid-October, the west-coast leg runs Portland on October 25, Vancouver on October 26 and Seattle on October 27, followed by a stop in St. Petersburg, Florida. The reunion then ends offshore, on the Headbangers Boat sailing October 30 to November 3 alongside Lamb of God, In Flames, Zakk Sabbath and GWAR. Which makes the Commodore one of only a handful of rooms left where anyone will hear this lineup play this album.

The venue is a fitting last stop for it. The Commodore's sprung dance floor has absorbed three decades of Vancouver hardcore and metal shows, and Dillinger's live reputation, built on a band that historically treated the stage as a hazard zone, is the kind of thing a 990-capacity ballroom flatters far more than an arena would. Squid Pisser, the Los Angeles noise-punk outfit, and XCOMM open both this show and the Portland date.
