Fatboy Slim Has Just Two North American Dates This Fall, and One of Them Is Malkin Bowl

Fatboy Slim plays Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park on Friday, September 25, 2026, with a 6:00 pm start. It is one of only two North American dates on Norman Cook's fall calendar, the other being Portola Festival in San Francisco the following night, which makes the roughly 2,000-capacity outdoor bowl the smallest room he will see on this continent all year.

Key details

  • Date: Friday, September 25, 2026
  • Venue: Malkin Bowl, 610 Pipeline Road, Stanley Park, Vancouver
  • Start time: 6:00 pm
  • Artist: Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook), DJ set
  • Tickets: Ticketmaster, presented by Live Nation
  • Context: one of two North American dates this fall, alongside Portola in San Francisco on September 26

The interesting thing about this booking is the arithmetic. Norman Cook has spent 2026 working at a scale most DJs never touch: the Quasar stage at Coachella, four consecutive nights on Brighton beach, a closing set at Rock in Rio in Brazil. He is the man who turned his home seafront into the Big Beach Boutique, a series of free gatherings that drew crowds large enough to become a civic planning problem. Malkin Bowl holds about two thousand people under open sky, on a patch of Stanley Park better known for summer musicals than for acid house.

That contrast is the pitch. Vancouver is getting a set built for festival fields, compressed into a venue where the back row is maybe sixty metres from the decks and the trees do most of the work on the sightlines. Anyone who has been to Malkin Bowl for a September show knows the trade: bring a layer, because the temperature drops the second the sun goes behind the cedars, and the acoustics reward standing anywhere in the front two thirds.

Three decades of the same reliable trick

Cook arrived at Fatboy Slim sideways, having started out playing bass in The Housemartins, and the project only really detonated with You've Come a Long Way, Baby in 1998. That album went platinum and produced "The Rockafeller Skank", "Praise You" and "Right Here, Right Now", three songs that still function as a shared language in any room over the age of thirty. Halfway Between the Gutter and the Stars followed in 2000 and gave him "Weapon of Choice", whose Spike Jonze video collected six awards at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards and remains the single most-cited piece of work in his catalogue.

He has not made a proper Fatboy Slim studio album since Palookaville in 2004, and he has been candid that the DJ booth, not the studio, is where the job is now. What he has kept up is a steady trickle of edits and collaborations: "Satisfaction Skank", which welds The Rolling Stones onto "The Rockafeller Skank", and "Funk Drunk", made with Brazilian DJ Carola and Felix Da Housecat. His 2010 Here Lies Love record with David Byrne, later staged as a musical, remains the outlier that proved he could work outside the four-to-the-floor format entirely.

None of that is what a Malkin Bowl crowd is showing up for. A Fatboy Slim set in 2026 is an unapologetic greatest-hits operation with the big-beat hooks landing exactly where you expect them, smiley-face iconography intact, and Cook himself grinning behind the decks in a Hawaiian shirt. The show has not changed much in twenty years because it has not needed to.

A busy week in Stanley Park

Fatboy Slim lands in the middle of an unusually stacked run at the venue. Bahamas plays the bowl on September 19, Big Thief bring the Somersault Slide 360 Tour there on September 24, the night before Cook, and oskar med k closes out the stretch on September 28. If you are trying to catch outdoor shows before the weather turns, this is effectively the last window of the year. The full Vancouver concert calendar has the rest of what is coming.

Frequently asked questions

When and where is Fatboy Slim playing in Vancouver?
Friday, September 25, 2026 at Malkin Bowl, 610 Pipeline Road in Stanley Park, with a 6:00 pm start. Tickets are through Ticketmaster.

Is this Fatboy Slim's only Canadian show this year?
It is the only Canadian date on his announced schedule. Vancouver and Portola Festival in San Francisco on September 26 are his only two North American appearances this fall.

Is Malkin Bowl an outdoor venue, and what should I bring?
Yes. It is an open-air bowl in Stanley Park with roughly 2,000 capacity and no roof over the audience. September evenings in Vancouver cool off fast once the sun is down, so a jacket and a rain layer are sensible regardless of the forecast.
