A seven-year gap and a band that does not exist

Victory arrived on June 26, 2026, and it is only the third Madeon album in eleven years. Hugo Leclercq built his reputation as a teenager with Pop Culture, a 31-song mashup posted to YouTube in July 2011 that racked up millions of views before he had released an original single. Adventure followed in 2015 and Good Faith in 2019, and then came a long quiet stretch in which Leclercq largely disappeared from release schedules while continuing to appear as a producer and collaborator.

The return has been staged rather than simply announced. Instead of a conventional album campaign, Leclercq has presented Victory as a band: himself alongside three invented bandmates named Spikey, Juno and Red, introduced through a cryptic Los Angeles billboard and a website that has been fed weekly instalments of backstory. The conceit gives the record a cast and a mythology, and it explains the tour billing, which reads as Madeon presents Victory Live rather than simply as a Madeon date. The first single, Fire Away, is a collaboration with Slayyyter; a later track, Red Jacket, pairs Leclercq with Scottish producer Sam Gellaitry.

The live show is the part that should matter most to anyone who caught the Good Faith Forever run. Victory Live is billed as a scaled-up version of that production, drawing on material from Adventure, Good Faith and Victory and reworking it into a continuous performed mix rather than a sequence of songs played as recorded. Leclercq has always treated the live set as a separate composition, and a room the size of the Commodore, with its sprung dance floor and roughly 1,000-capacity sightlines, is a considerably tighter space than the theatres and ballrooms he is playing elsewhere on the run.

Vancouver falls inside the tour's first week. Victory Live opens September 24 at the Roseland Theater in Portland, moves to Seattle, then reaches Granville Street on the 26th, which means the Commodore gets a version of the show that has barely been broken in. There is a small local symmetry, too: Slayyyter, who sings on Fire Away, headlines the same room on September 3 on her Wor$t Girl in the World tour, three weeks before Madeon walks onto the same stage. The Commodore's September is unusually strong either way, with Peaches on the 4th, Kruder and Dorfmeister's K&D Kicks 30 anniversary show on the 29th and Channel Tres on the 30th.
