Jackson Wang does not so much play a concert as stage a full-body exorcism, and on Sunday, April 5, 2026, he brought that spectacle to the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. The Hong Kong-born singer, rapper and relentless showman - once of GOT7, now a genre-blurring solo force - rolled into Vancouver on his MAGIC MAN 2 world tour, and for the better part of three hours he ran the UBC arena through sweat, spectacle and a surprising amount of genuine feeling.
He opened in full MAGIC MAN mode - “High Alone,” “Access” and “Hate to Love” arriving in a rush of hard beats, precise choreography and cinematic staging. From the first minute it was clear this was a production built for a room several sizes bigger than the setlist on paper might suggest, all stark lighting and full-throttle physicality, with Wang commanding the stage like a man with something to prove.
What sets him apart from the arena-pop pack is how completely he throws himself into it. He danced hard, sang live, and stalked the stage with the intensity of a performer who treats every show like his last. Still-unreleased songs like “Shadows on the Wall,” “Contact” and “Closer” sat comfortably beside the sleek, brooding MAGIC MAN 2 material, and the crowd - loud, devoted and word-perfect - met him at every turn.
The middle of the set showed his range. The moody “Blue” and the pulsing “Dopamine” reached back into the first MAGIC MAN era, while “BUCK,” “Let Loose” and the swaggering “TITANIC” kept the floor moving. But the most striking moments were the quieter ones: “Dear:” and “Made Me a Man” traded spectacle for vulnerability, Wang setting the MAGIC MAN persona aside just long enough to let something more personal through.
That balance - the showman and the confessor - is the whole appeal, and the Vancouver crowd clearly came for both. “GBAD” and “Sophie Ricky” turned the back half into a full-on party, and by the time he stepped off the stage the room was roaring for more.
He gave it to them, returning for an encore of remixed, turned-up versions of “BUCK,” “Access” and “GBAD” that sent everyone out wrung out and grinning. Nearly three hours after it began, Jackson Wang had made a mid-sized university arena feel like the centre of the pop universe - which, for one Sunday night in Vancouver, it more or less was.
